I work for a company called NaturalWatt based in Exeter, who supply and install solar systems. They also provide a 'controller' which monitors your system and records energy usage and generation and feeds it all up to a website so you can see it in almost real time with historic graphs. It's pretty cool and can be retro fitted to an existing system. So, if you want to get a handle on how much energy you are saving/using so you can be sure the electricity company is on the level and just to get a feel for how you consume energy have a look at the website. http://www.wattsure.com and for examples of the online 'dashboard' have a look at 'Live Sites' at http://www.naturalwatt.com

Solar thermal feed in tariffs were confirmed also just recently to come into effect next year so that should help reduce the bills. I think as it's all part of the same bill it ought to happen whoever we vote for now.

Good luck with the vegies and fruit, we're planning on becoming more self sufficient this year, also to do with a larger garden since a house move, which has the added bonus of an ancient plum tree which provides pounds and pounds of fruit for us and our neighbours/freinds/family anyone who'll take it, there's so much!

Take it easy
